CanterburyHigh School
(CGC1D, Ms.Schuster’s Period 4 Geog. Class)

Hi everyone!
We are a period 4 academic geography class of 23 from Canterbury High School in Ottawa, Canada. Our school is located at 900 Canterbury Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Google it to get a better view of where we are! As a school, we are recognized for our top class, specialized arts program and our amazing academic achievements; according to a national magazine we are rated as the top arts high school in Canada. We have a very multi-cultural student body and we respect and treat everyone as an equal, no matter of sexuality, race, gender, etc. In our school there is always something going on and you will always find a club or sports team to join. We open our arms to new students and you will never feel left out.
Most people know us for our arts programs. Our specialized programs include drama, dance, music, literary arts and visual arts. Our school walls are covered in the artwork of our former students and new artwork is always going up for everyone to see. Performances by our dance and drama students are always very exciting. Our choirs and musical groups also perform in concerts all over town and often travel abroad to perform. Our literacy arts students also perform in school coffee houses (informal events to showcase talent) and other things like poetry readings.
Canterbury is a big school with about 1350 students attending. Canterbury is located in an urban neighborhood in the S.E. part of the city. Our school is two stories high including a basement and is all filled with amazing students and friendly faces.

Some of the hobbies that we like to participate in on our spare time include playing music, sports (hockey, kayaking, fencing, figure skating, archery, curling, biking, soccer, running skiing and snowboarding), reading, writing, listening to music, drawing, doing art, manga, acting, listening to music, video games, singing.
Ottawa – Our City
Ottawa, the capital city of Canada and also the fourth largest city in the country is located in the central eastern part of the country in the province of Ontario. Our country is divided up into 13 different provinces/territories. Ottawa hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including a big music festival in July called Bluesfest, another large festival in February called Winterlude (where we have icescuptures, ice slides, and skating along an 8km long canal) and the Tulip Festival in May to name a few. Ottawa is a very beautiful and green city. It is also a very diverse place, filled with people with a variety of different cultural backgrounds. Our population is 883 391 people. Because Ottawa is the capital city, the Parliament Buildings are located here. Our economy is based mainly on three things; government, tourism and high-tech industries.
Ottawa’s climate is continental which means that it is very hot in the summer (30 degrees on average without humidex) and very cold in the winter (sometimes as low as -40 degrees C).
Canada – Our Country
"Oh, Canada. The true North, strong and free".
We are the second largest country in the world, though we have a low population. We have four very different seasons: spring, summer, winter and fall. Only in the winter (and a bit of spring) do we have snow. Because of our high standard of living (and politeness) many people immigrate to our country. Our stereotypes include: igloos, “eh?”, being exceptionally polite, milk bags, Tim Horton’s, maple syrup, toques, and Bob and Doug Mackenzie. We had the most Gold Medals in the winter Olympics, and we also have the largest coastline in the world. Our landmarks include the Rocky mountains, CN Tower, Niagara Falls, Alberta Oil Sands, the Great Lakes, large coastlines, etc. We as people are bilingual, enjoy Hockey, eat beaver tails (a doughy pastry), poutine, maple syrup, and have Canadian bacon. Our national anthem is both French and English. We still have a queen figure, and we are very proud of our Native heritage.
"Oh, Canada. We stand on guard for thee".
