In Bangladesh we have flood almost in every year. Scarcity of pure drinking water is a great problem at that time. People suffer a  lot at that  time. Now, our question-

 

1. Do you face flood/ tidal surge  in your country ? Do you face scarcity of pure drinking water in your city/ country normally or during flood/ natural calamities? How is water purified in your country and supplied to people?

In our country Latvia, the ground-waters is about 1-10m in depth. Therefore very often they are polluted. In Latvia about 20% of wells are polluted. Drinking water resources in Latvia are sufficient, but they aren't located even.
Lakes occupy 1,5% of the territory, swamps - 10%.
Fresh-water is in lakes and rivers, too. The amount of rivers in Latvia is 12 400.
Gauja is the longest river - 452 km. Daugava - 352 km long.
People who live near the lakes and rivers, use it in housekeeping and farms. Rain is approximately 700mm a year. It is raining more than vaporizate, so therefore swamps and damp places form.

In Kenya, we border the Indian Ocean, a massive water body to the East and yet most of the water supply we rely on is rainy water. The basic reason is that water from the ocean is salty and not fresh for domestic use. In fact, most families at the Coast where our school is situated cannot access fresh drinking water. When families are supported to drill some underground water, it is still salty! As such we are keen in establishing what’s happening in other countries with similar problems and whether there is an opportunity to turn the salty water to be fresh for use...
